Rio Secco Golf Club was designed and built in 1997 by golf course architect Rees Jones. The course lays at the foothills of the Black Mountain Range 13.5 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. Rio Secco can play to over 7,400 yards and very difficult, but also offers four teeing grounds to allow golfers of any skill level a memorable golf experience. Features include 6 holes through steep canyons, 6 holes on a plateau overlooking the city and 6 holes in a broad desert wash. Our course is legendary among local residents and avid golfers alike for the tremendously challenging, fair, and demanding course layout. Rio Secco is affiliated with Caesars Entertainment, Inc. and welcomes guests from all the hotels in the greater Las Vegas area.

Rees Jones Philosophy
Rio Secco Golf Club

If I were to summarize my Philosophy for golf course design, it would be this: to create an environment for the game of golf that is challenging, fair, and aesthetically pleasing. I would rather create a natural, classic course that blends with its surroundings, than a course full of unnecessary gimmicks which discourages the average golfer.

My style emphasizes definition. I work hard at giving the golfer a concept as he stands over the ball. I want him to see the intended target and be able to visualize the shot. To achieve this, I elevate the tees when possible, grade fairways and add bunkers, pockets and mounds and carefully crafted greens. The greens are surrounded by features that protect the surface. These natural appearing features help to contain slightly errant shots and provide a variety of approach shots. Our Philosophy is to penalize a missed shot in keeping with the degree it is missed. Our courses are designed with so many subtleties that a new experience can be encountered on every round. We often emphasize position and risks off the tee to improve the approach to the green. I make each hole more distinctive by using a mix of design elements which I call a “multi‐theme” approach.

I believe graceful lines and greens which allow for multiple options for hole locations. A properly contoured and fortified green, more than any other feature, is the place where par is presented as a standard of excellence.

The selection of a site for the course is crucial. It serves as the canvas for the creation of the design, I consider myself as a “hands on” architect with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Frequent visits to the site are essential to oversee construction and create design details.

My approach to remodeling a classic existing course is not unlike an art restorer with an old painting. After a careful study, I strip away the accumulated effects of years of wear and tear. The result is to return the course to the original design intent while bearing in mind the abilities and equipment of today’s golfers.

The ultimate measure of success is building uncontrived courses that have enough variety and character to retain the golfer’s interest round after round.  I strive to build my courses to stand the test of time.

Course Policy Communication: the course policies are explicitly detailed in the automatically generated email confirmation of a reservation; however, to ensure all guests understand our course policies, we ask that either that confirmation is forwarded to all fellow playing partners, or they are referred to this page for reference. We appreciate your cooperation.

About your tee time: Please arrive to Rio Secco early and be prepared to start your round 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. Rio Secco management reserves the right to move your tee time forward or backwards 10 minutes if doing so would benefit the operation, or enhance your experience on property. If your reservation is of less than four players in any given time slot, Rio Secco reserves the right to pair you or your group with other players.

Inclement Weather Policy: Only the Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf can deem the course unplayable due to weather.  All cancellations, no shows or reductions will be charged if the course is open for play (see cancellation policy below for allowable cancellations and reductions).

Reduction & Cancellation Policy: Rio Secco has a strict 72-hour cancellation period, which includes reductions in group size. The person making the reservation is responsible for no shows and short shows. To reduce the number of players in your reservation, or to cancel your tee time completely, send us an email. Twilight Tee Times: please check the scheduled sunset on the day of your desired tee time, along with the standard pace of play (4.5-5 hrs), and determine whether or not you can expect to finish all 18 holes.
